Manual instruments are placed in an open grass field alongside the automatic digital weather station and are used for calibration checking and educational purposes. The hygrometer, the Max/Min thermometer and the barometer are housed in an instrument screen. Instruments on site include:

The REMEX rain gauge is moulded in poly carbonate which is renowned for its outstanding toughness. Overall 165mm capacity.


Metal Min/Max Thermometer

Metal min/max thermometer with black push button reset to view the night time minimum and the day time maximum temperatures.


50mm Dial ground thermometer(-20 to 60 degC) @ 300mm

WM-200 WindMate® with Wind Direction and Digital Compass

Measures: Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Temperature and Wind Chill.

Displays current, maximum and average wind speed

Reports wind direction in both degrees and compass points

Calculates head wind, tail wind, and cross wind.

Liquid fill ground thermometer (-10 to 50degC) @ 100mm

Maplin Precision Gold N85FR Infrared Thermometer

Used to measure cloud base temperature
